I’ve finally arrived at Uncle Billy’s Hotel in Hilo Bay.  Baggage handling at Hilo airport seemed a little old-fashioned, they had a carousel but didn’t use it and brought each piece of luggage in the the baggage hall individually.  The “hall’ is a little different too, three sides are open, its just a roof and one wall!   The hotel is ok, not as glam as last night!  Its somewhat noisy, click the link to hear the birds and rain, recorded on my balcony: NOISY!

Before I left LAX I went for lunch at The Encounter, I’ve *always* wanted to go there so it made up for the grumpiness I had over missing my flight to Hawaii.

At the center of Los Angeles International Airport stands the landmark Theme Building which is home to the spectacular Encounter Restaurant and Bar. With 135-foot high parabolic arches and a futuristic design, the structure is certainly unique and has become one of the most recognizable buildings in the U.S.

The Theme Building was completed in August 1961 at a cost of $2.2 million; and the Encounter Restaurant, with its space-age interior and spectacular exterior lighting, opened in January 1997, serving fantastic cuisine and offering 360 degree views of the airport.
